Luminato Festival Toronto
Luminato Festival Toronto<

The theme of Luminato 2025, DAY:NIGHT explores how we inhabit the city in a 24-hour period. From dusk to dawn and dawn to dusk, any given day can be ordinary or extraordinary. First breath, dawn light through to last dance and final word - the 2025 programme asks us to reflect on the cycle of our collective lives and how we engage, disrupt and exist in time and space as a community. With the city as your canvas, expect compelling art in atypical spaces. Night shifts, dawn chorus, art up late through to cemetery walks. Be it the first of things or the last of things, we invite locals and visitors to encounter Toronto differently.

Pickering Village Jam Fest

artfest

Pickering Village, located in Ajax, has a rich history dating back to 1807 when a group of Quakers settled in the area. The village is situated along a spur of the original Kingston Road, and visitors today can still see several historic buildings. Notable structures include Gordon House, built in 1881, which was a hotel renowned for its excellent cuisine. Casa Verde, an Italian restaurant, occupies a circa 1890 building that originally served as a birthing house and later as a hideout for rum runners. Additionally, the house of the original doctor, constructed around 1867, features distinctive metal spired cupolas and decorative brickwork.

For over a decade, Pickering Village has celebrated its community through the Pickering Village JAM Festival, affectionately known as JAMFest. Originally called the Pickering Village Jazz Festival, it transformed into JAMFest in 2011. This festival highlights the joy of music and arts, inviting visitors to stroll through the village, enjoy live performances, and engage with local artists.

During JAMFest, attendees can explore vendor booths, savor delicious food from local restaurants, or enjoy casual bites from street vendors offering a variety of cuisines, including Jamaican jerk chicken and poutine. The festival atmosphere is lively, with musicians playing 50s rock and roll, blues, jazz, and folk, encouraging everyone to dance and celebrate the vibrant community spirit.

Come out to JAMFest and immerse yourself in the fun, music, and arts that define Pickering Village!

CANADA DAY

Canada Day, formerly known as Dominion Day, is the national day of Canada. A federal statutory holiday, it celebrates the anniversary of Canadian Confederation which occurred on July 1, 1867, with the passing of the British North America Act, 1867, when the three separate colonies of the United Canadas, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick were united into a single dominion within the British Empire called Canada. Originally called Dominion Day, the holiday was renamed in 1982, the same year that the Canadian constitution was patriated by the Canada Act, 1982, which severed the vestiges of legal dependence on the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Canada Day celebrations take place throughout the country, as well as in various locations around the world attended by Canadians living abroad
